Australian Volunteers International

Since 1951, Australian Volunteers International (AVI) has been managing people-centred development projects and programs, placing over 7500 Australians in over 60 countries to work with partners from the highest level of government to isolated village communities.

AVI volunteers have shared their diverse knowledge, experiences and skills as they live, work and learn in response to needs expressed by local communities. AVI's work focuses on reducing poverty, providing health and education services, promoting human rights and gender equality, and protecting the environment.

Planet Wheeler Foundation has funded AVI to start the AVI Community Grants Scheme (CGS). The AVICGS will offer the financial support to a project, and its implementation will be backed by a volunteer working with the community. This is a powerful combination of funds, skills and resources - providing three way support for a community's development initiatives.
